Apple chips

I’m a girl that loves to change things up! The same thing everyday is boring! An apple a day keeps the doctor away- great! But let’s see how many ways we can eat it!

I have a few friends that tease me about how many things that I make instead of buy. The other day I told a girlfriend about how I made almond butter for the first time.. “Of course YOU would make almond butter instead of buying it”. Why not?! It’s one ingredient put into a food processor and left alone for 15 minutes…  Just like these apple chips! Ya slice em and throw em in the oven… Viola! Healthy, cheap (no crap added to them) snacks!

Turn your oven on to 200 degrees Fahrenheit  and grab 2-4 of your favorite apples. This time I used Granny Smith green apples and Red Delicious apples.

If you happen to have a mandolin- perfect! If not, then get your sharpest knife out and slice your apples as thin as you can. I’m talkin at least 1/8 inch. The thinner that you get them, the crunchier they’ll be.

Then arrange them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, sprinkle with cinnamon and place into your preheated oven.

Leave the apples in for around two hours and when they look wrinkled up like this

Take them out and let them cool. They will still seem flexible when you remove them from the oven, but once they cool, they’ll harden and crisp up.

My kids love these! I had to make two batches because they disappeared so fast!   The one thing that I have learned when making apple chips, though, is that they should be eating within a day or two. Putting them in the refrigerator makes them soft and very chewy and not putting them in the refrigerator leads to them growing mold very quickly😒   So don’t try to make a huge batch for the week. Just make them when you want them 🙂   Oh yeah! I forgot to mention how great it makes your house smell! Enjoy and let me know what you think!!
